| Baby Carrier Sling by New Native w/ Free Instructional DVD - 100% Cotton - All Sizes and Colors (XS,S,M,L,XL,Black,Khaki,etc.) by never worked for us | I got this sling when my daughter was 2 weeks old. Although I was fitted at a store that carried many types of slings, and all of my measurements fit the size I bought (small), it never seemed to fit correctly. This sling seemed too long for me, so baby was always swinging about, and I felt as though I needed to carry her higher so ended up supporting her with my arm all the time (which sort of misses the point of a carrier). But if I had gotten one that was smaller, then it would have been too tight, I think.
I could only carry her, even as a newborn, for about 30 minutes before my shoulder started to really hurt, and I don't normally have any back or shoulder problems. Also, she never seemed properly supported in it, and just sunk down into a little ball (which the instructions warn against, to prevent suffocation), so I was constantly checking her to see if she was still breathing. Because this sling is not adjustable in any way, I also could never let her see out, and she hated being completely enclosed.
Overall, I really tried to like this sling for several months, but just never did - and neither did my daughter. I wouldn't recommend it at all.
Unfortunately, I was so turned off by this experience that I didn't want to waste any more money on trying to find a sling that worked better. But the whole time I wished I'd been able to "wear" my baby like I had hoped. When I have an issue with an item I will sometimes write a review to educate other parents.
However, this sling is amazing. I had the other type of carrier, the harness, and it was very uncomfortable for both of us. My first child was very independent and never needed to be held, so I was a little overwhelmed and excited to have a baby who actually needed and wanted me to hold him all the time. That being said, I spent a lot of each day sitting down with him in my lap or letting him cry as I did various house hold chores. I received this sling today, figured out how to put it on and he starting crying. I slipped him into it and went to take out the trash. By the time I came back inside, maybe a minute or two, he was fast asleep. Amazing! I'm sitting here typing this review with two hands as opposed to chicken pecking with one hand while I coddle him with the other!
In my oppinion, every new mom should get a sling and a boppy pillow!

I also have a back problem. I was wary of spending the money on this because I really didn't know if I could physically handle carrying the baby on me. Boy was I wrong. This carrier is so wonderfully convenient to adjust around your shoulders and body. I used it on my premie when she was but 2 days old. My baby is now close to 6 months old and enjoys riding around in it looking out. I have cleaned the house, and done a variety of tasks with baby attached to me with no problem. Even my husband has found this convenient and comfortable to wear. I cannot say enough good things about this. I have washed and dryer dried it several times with no adverse affect on its sizing. I bought the black so that my husband would be comfortable wearing it. It cleans wonderfully and is very comfortable. Baby has always enjoyed riding in it and tends to sleep away while tucked inside. I have several times passed her over to Daddy while inside as well, its really that easy to use. It's a very nice quality sling and worked alright when my infant was asleep, but my old sling is a Nojo - which is padded around the edge and adjustable. I was (am) spoiled I guess...This new native sling was very uncomfortable if my daughter wasn't sleeping. Even at two weeks old, she preferred to have her face exposed. Now (at 7 weeks) she likes to be able to see out. In the new native sling the baby is tucked all the way down inside. If I arrange it so she can see out, the coarse edge is against her somewhere and is uncomfortable. I also never got used to it "hanging". With the Nojo I can snug my children up against me so they aren't swinging at all. I read negative reviews about the Nojo - some people don't like the fact it's adjustable. If you are one of these people, I recommend the new native sling.
